Privacy policy
Jariyah is software that mosques and Islamic charities in Canada use for their giving, books, staff and schools. Each masjid decides what it keeps about its own people; Jariyah stores it for that masjid, apart from every other masjid, and never sells it or uses it for advertising. This page says what is kept, where and why.

What this website collects
The sign-up form
When you sign up a masjid, we keep what you send: the masjid’s name, city and province, your name, phone and email, its CRA charity number if you give one, your message, the services you are interested in, and the internet address the request came from, which we use to stop abuse. The Jariyah team uses it only to contact you and set your masjid up.
No tracking
jariyah.ca has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind, and it sets no cookies.
Server records
Like any web server, ours notes each request it answers: the internet address it came from, the page, the time and the browser. We use these notes only to keep the site safe and to find faults.
In each masjid’s Jariyah
What masjids keep in Jariyah
The masjid decides
A masjid uses Jariyah to keep its own records: its donors, their gifts and receipts; the members who use its app; its staff and volunteers, their payroll, hours and expense receipts; its directors; the people it helps with zakat and their means tests; its madrasha’s students, many of them children, and their parents or guardians; messages sent through its website; and its books. The masjid decides what it collects and is responsible for it; Jariyah keeps it on the masjid’s behalf.
Payroll details
Social insurance numbers and bank details for payroll are encrypted in the database, and screens show only their last few digits. The full numbers are opened only for people whose role allows it, for things like a direct-deposit file.
Card gifts
Card gifts are taken by Square, through the masjid’s own Square account. The card number goes to Square, never to Jariyah. Jariyah keeps the card’s brand, its last four digits and a code from Square that stays the same each time that card is used. When a donor puts a card on file, gifts made with the same card, including gifts given without a name, are added to that donor’s record and receipts. The masjid’s office can undo any match.
Questions about your masjid
If your question is about what your masjid holds about you, ask your masjid first: it decides about those records. We help it answer, and you can also write to us.
Safeguards
How it is protected
Each masjid apart
Every masjid’s records are kept apart in the database itself, which is built so that the people of one masjid cannot see another masjid’s records.
Only what a role allows
Inside a masjid, each person sees only what their role allows, and a member sees only their own giving.
Encrypted backups
The database is backed up every night. Copies that leave the server are encrypted first, and only the Jariyah team holds the key. Backups are kept for 30 days, so something deleted can stay in a backup for up to 30 days.
Where it is stored
Stored and handled outside Canada
Our servers
Jariyah’s servers are in a data centre in the United States, run by Hostinger.
Companies that help us
Email from Jariyah, such as receipts and sign-in links, is sent through Postmark, in the United States. Cloudflare answers for the jariyah.ca domain and forwards mail sent to our address to the team’s mailbox. Card gifts go to Square. App notifications pass through the push service of your phone’s or browser’s maker (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft); the message is encrypted, so they see only that a notification was sent.
AI tools
The Jariyah team uses AI tools, including Anthropic’s Claude, in its work. When a masjid asks us to bring in its earlier records, such as its old books, those records may be read by such a tool, in the United States.
Other countries’ laws
Information stored or handled outside Canada is subject to the laws of the country it is in, and may be reached by its courts and authorities under those laws.
The Jariyah team
The Jariyah team, including people who work outside Canada, can reach the records when they need to, to run the platform and to help a masjid. The encrypted nightly backups are also copied to a Jariyah team computer outside Canada, opened there each night to check that they restore, and kept encrypted in Microsoft OneDrive.
Never
What we never do
No selling
We never sell or rent personal information, and never use it for advertising.
No reuse of a masjid’s people
We never use one masjid’s records for another masjid, or to contact a masjid’s people for ourselves.
How long
How long it is kept
Sign-up requests
A sign-up request is kept while we set your masjid up, and afterwards as a record that it was made. You can ask us to delete it.
Records behind receipts
A registered charity must keep copies of its official receipts for at least two years after the year of the gift, and its books and the records behind them for at least six years after the end of the fiscal year they cover. These records stay at least that long.
Closing an app account
If you ask your masjid to close your app account, every sign-in ends, reminders stop, and the email, phone and address on the account are cleared. Your name, donor number and gifts stay. So do official receipts already issued, with the name and address printed on them, because the masjid must keep copies.
Your questions
Seeing, correcting and asking
See or correct your information
You can ask what we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Write to admin@jariyah.ca. We answer within 30 days, or tell you within those 30 days why we need more time, as the law allows. If the records are a masjid’s, we pass your request to that masjid and help it answer.
