JARIYAH

A mosque donation kiosk, built for Canada

Jariyah’s donation kiosk is a portrait touchscreen by the masjid door: tap an amount, pick a fund, tap a card, and the gift goes into the masjid’s own Square account. For a registered charity, the donor names that card once in the member app, and every gift it made can then carry an official donation receipt.

Tap to donate

How tap to donate works at a masjid

  1. 1

    Choose an amount

Preset amount tiles, or any other amount on the screen’s own keypad. No app to download and no account to open.

  2. 2

    Choose the fund

Sadaqah, Zakat, a building fund: the masjid’s own funds, named and ordered its way. Jariyah never invents a fund.

  3. 3

    Tap the card

A Square card terminal beside the screen takes the payment, straight into the masjid’s own merchant account. Jariyah never holds donations.

  4. 4

    The office sees it

Each gift shows on the console’s Kiosks page and in the giving reports and, with Jariyah Bookkeeping, in the books against the fund the donor chose.

Official donation receipts

Can a kiosk issue a CRA tax receipt?

Not from the tap alone. A card tap gives the masjid the card’s brand and last four digits, not the donor’s name and address, and an official donation receipt must carry both. Jariyah joins the two: the donor says once which card is theirs, and the gifts that card made at the kiosk become theirs to receipt.

  1. 1

    The tap is recorded

Every card gift keeps the card’s brand, its last four digits and the payment provider’s fingerprint of the card, never the card number, beside the amount and the fund.

  2. 2

    The donor names the card

The kiosk’s Tax receipt button shows a QR code to the masjid’s member app. There the donor adds the card under My cards, by its brand and last four digits; the office can add it on the donor’s page instead.

  3. 3

    The gifts follow the card

Every kiosk gift that card made, earlier ones and new ones, moves onto the donor’s record, when no other donor holds those digits. Each move is recorded, and the office can mark a gift “Not theirs” to send it back.

  4. 4

    The receipt is issued

With a mailing address on file, the donor gets an official receipt for one gift, or for a whole past year once it is over, in the app as a PDF. The office can issue last year’s annual receipts for everyone in February and email them.

Only for a registered charity. The kiosk shows its Tax receipt button only where a receipt can really be had: the masjid uses donor management and the member app, official receipts are switched on, and its legal name, address, charity registration number, signer and place of issue are on file. Otherwise it offers no receipt. Its thank-you screen never shows a tax figure.

Built for Canada

A masjid donation kiosk for Canada

  • Mosque, masjid or Islamic centre

Your own name, logo and colours on the glass, your own funds and amounts, and your social media accounts as QR codes for visitors to follow.

  • Always portrait

Shaped like a monitor turned on its side, the way a kiosk hangs on a masjid wall. It shrinks to fit any portrait screen rather than cut a fund off.

  • Zakat kept apart

Each gift is recorded against the fund the donor picked, and with Jariyah Bookkeeping it posts to the books against that fund, so Zakat is shown apart from the general total.

  • A payment is never lost

Each payment is written down before the card is charged. Every five minutes the platform asks Square about any payment still open, so a lost answer becomes exactly one recorded gift.

  • One at every entrance

Each location can have its own funds, amounts and QR codes, and every kiosk reports to the same console and the same books.

  • On masjid walls today

Jariyah’s portrait donation kiosks are on masjid walls in Saskatchewan today, set up by the Jariyah team and run from the same console as the books.

Questions

Mosque donation kiosks in Canada: common questions

Can a donation kiosk issue a CRA tax receipt?

Not from the tap alone, because a card tap does not carry the donor’s name and address. With Jariyah, a registered charity’s donor names their card once in the member app, the kiosk gifts that card made move onto their record when no other donor holds those digits, and they get official donation receipts for them.

How does tap to donate work at a masjid?

A visitor taps an amount on the kiosk’s portrait screen, picks a fund such as Sadaqah or Zakat, and taps a card on the Square terminal beside it. There is nothing to download and no account to open, and the gift goes straight into the masjid’s own merchant account, recorded against that fund.

What if two donors have cards ending in the same four digits?

Then neither card claims anything. A kiosk gift moves onto a donor’s record only when its last four digits are on file for exactly one donor of the masjid, and the card’s fingerprint tells two cards with the same digits apart. Every move is recorded, and the office can send a gift back.

Can a masjid that is not a registered charity use the kiosk?

Yes. Any masjid can take card gifts at the kiosk, recorded by fund. Only a registered charity may issue official donation receipts, so without a charity number the kiosk offers no receipt; members can still print a giving statement, which says plainly that it is not an official receipt.

Where does the money from a mosque donation kiosk go?

Into the masjid’s own merchant account, through its own Square account. Jariyah never holds donations. Each gift is recorded against the fund the donor chose, shows in the office’s giving reports, and with Jariyah Bookkeeping posts to the books by itself, so the treasurer finds every kiosk gift there.

How much does a mosque donation kiosk cost?

Jariyah does not publish prices. The kiosk is one service, switched on alone or beside the books, the member app and the others, so the conversation starts with what your masjid runs today. The Jariyah team sets it up. Call or text Ashique Hossain at 306-209-3923 to talk it through.
