Grants for mosques in Canada: who funds what, and when
A Canadian mosque can apply for grants: Canada Summer Jobs pays youth wages, the Canada Community Security Program pays up to 70% of eligible security costs, and three provinces’ funds pay for community programmes or public-use facilities, never religious activities. Jariyah Grant Management keeps each grant’s deadlines and reports in one place; it does not find grants for you.
Government funding for mosques and Islamic centres
Which grants can a mosque in Canada apply for?
Five programmes name or fit a mosque. Two are federal: Canada Summer Jobs lists mosques among the faith-based organizations that may apply, and the Canada Community Security Program names the mosque among the places of worship whose security it funds. Three are provincial, in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta, and each funds community programmes or public-use facilities, never religious activities.
-
Federal
Canada Summer Jobs
Wages for youth aged 15 to 30 in summer jobs: a not-for-profit receives up to 100% of the provincial adult minimum hourly wage. The mosque needs a CRA business number, a payroll deductions account and, new this cycle, two years in operation by December 31, 2026, or an exemption. Not every eligible project is funded.
-
Federal
Canada Community Security Program
The federal security grant, formerly the Security Infrastructure Program. For a not-for-profit mosque, community centre, provincially recognized school, cemetery or camp at risk of hate-motivated crime, even with no incident yet: security equipment, entrance and perimeter work, security plans, training and time-limited guards. Up to 70% of eligible costs, up to $5 million a project, usually paid back after the work.
-
Ontario
Ontario Trillium Foundation Seed Grant
$10,000 to $100,000 for 6 or 12 months. A mosque that is a registered charity or not-for-profit corporation, operating for at least 12 months, may apply for programmes for the community at large that are not religious activities and ask no one to take part in the faith. Capital work on space used mainly for worship is not funded.

Saskatchewan
SaskCulture Multicultural Initiatives Fund (MIF)
Up to $5,000 for a small project or $15,000 for a major one: cultural continuity, celebrating diversity, intercultural connections, anti-oppression, truth and reconciliation. For an incorporated non-profit in Saskatchewan, a full fiscal year old, with a cultural mandate or strong cultural activity. Projects with religious activities, viewpoints or components are not eligible, so a mosque applies only for a cultural project open to a broad audience. No building costs.

Alberta
Community Facility Enhancement Program
Matching grants to build, upgrade, expand or buy public-use community facilities: up to $125,000 in the Small stream, over $125,000 to $1 million in the Large. The mosque puts in at least as much, and Alberta pays at most half the project. Places of worship are excluded; the facility must serve the public.

A grant calendar
When do grants for mosques open and close?
At different times, so a mosque keeps one calendar. Canada Summer Jobs takes applications from October 27 to December 3, 2026, for jobs in summer 2027. The Canada Community Security Program takes them all year, first come, first served, until the year’s money is allocated. Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta each have fixed dates.
All year
Canada Community Security Program: no deadline. Allow at least six months between applying and starting, because work done before the agreement is signed is not paid back unless Public Safety authorizes it in writing.
January 15, May 15, September 15
Alberta’s CFEP Small: three intakes a year. The next one after this page was checked is January 15, 2027.
May 15 to July 30
Alberta’s CFEP Large: an expression of interest by May 15, the call for applications on June 15, applications closing July 30, and the answer in January.
July 22 to August 19, 2026
Ontario Trillium Foundation Seed Grant: the 2026 window. The 2027 dates were not yet published when this page was checked.
October 13, 2026
SaskCulture Multicultural Initiatives Fund: the fall 2026 deadline, for projects starting no earlier than December 8, 2026. The next round was not yet published.
October 27 to December 3, 2026
Canada Summer Jobs 2027: applications by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on December 3. Service Canada answers from April 2027, for jobs between April 19 and August 28, 2027.
Each date your mosque is working towards goes into Jariyah with its grant: an application due, a report owed, a grant period ending. They come back together on one Deadlines list.

The grants you hold
How does a mosque keep track of the grants it holds?
Jariyah Grant Management keeps track of the grants a masjid applies for and holds: the application, the award, the milestones and evidence it promised, the reports it owes and the deadline for each. Every date comes back on one Deadlines list, overdue first, and with Jariyah Bookkeeping a grant that names its fund has its money read from the books.
- 1
Funders and grants
Each funder with its kind: federal, provincial, municipal, a foundation, a company, a community group or another. Each grant moves from being looked into, to written, submitted, then awarded and closed, or declined or withdrawn, and each move is recorded with its day.
- 2
Milestones and reports
What the grant promised, and when. Marking one done records the day and, if given, the evidence: what it is and where it is kept. A grant closes only when everything it promised is done.
- 3
Deadlines, overdue first
An application due, a decision expected, a milestone or report due, a grant period ending: soonest first, as overdue, the next 30 days and later. A funder late with its decision is never counted as your overdue.
- 4
The money, from the books
With Jariyah Bookkeeping, a grant names its fund, and its page shows received, spent and left over the grant period, or from the decision when there is none, read from the books. Everything tagged with that fund counts, and only people who may read the books see the amounts.
Print a summary for a funder’s report: your organization’s name, the grant’s facts, the money and each milestone and report.
Questions
Grants for mosques in Canada: common questions
Can a mosque use a grant for religious activities?
Not from the provincial funds named here. The Ontario Trillium Foundation funds a faith-based group’s programmes that are not religious activities, SaskCulture’s fund excludes projects with religious components, and Alberta’s facility programme excludes places of worship. The Canada Community Security Program, by contrast, funds security at the mosque itself, as a place of worship.
Does a grant get an official donation receipt?
Not in Jariyah. A grant from a government or a foundation is money with conditions, not a donor’s gift, so Jariyah keeps funders apart from donors: the grant is recorded in Grant Management and its money in the books against its fund, never on a donor’s receipts. Ask your accountant about any exception.
Does Jariyah find grants for a mosque?
No. Jariyah does not search for grants or apply for them. When your team finds a programme worth a look, it goes in as a grant being looked into, with the funder and the application deadline, and from then on Jariyah keeps where it stands, what it asks for and every date it brings.
How do government grants show on the T3010?
The T3010 asks a charity how much of its revenue came from federal, provincial and municipal governments. Jariyah records each funder’s kind and reads each grant’s money from the books, but it does not prepare or file the T3010; your accountant or treasurer files the return within six months of your year end.
Can a Canada Summer Jobs student be paid through Jariyah payroll?
Yes, as an employee like any other, through Jariyah HR & payroll under federal and Saskatchewan rules today; no other province yet, and Quebec is not covered. Canada Summer Jobs asks for a CRA payroll deductions account before the mosque hires, and the grant, its reports and its dates go in Grant Management.
How much does Jariyah Grant Management cost?
Jariyah does not publish prices. Grant Management is one service, switched on alone or beside the books, payroll, donor management and the others, so the conversation starts with the grants your masjid holds today. The Jariyah team sets it up. Call or text Ashique Hossain at 306-209-3923 to talk it through.
