CRA donation receipts for mosques in Canada
Jariyah issues official donation receipts for a mosque, masjid or Islamic centre that is a registered charity in Canada. Each carries the charity’s registered details, a serial number, the donor, the gift and the CRA’s website, covers one gift or a whole past year, and never changes once issued. Cash, cheques and Interac e-Transfers can all be receipted.

Official donation receipts
What makes a donation receipt CRA compliant?
An official donation receipt, under the Income Tax Regulations, says it is an official receipt for income tax purposes and shows the charity’s name, address and registration number, a serial number, where and when it was issued, the gift’s date, the donor’s name and address, the amount, any advantage, the eligible amount, an approved signature and the CRA’s website.
The charity, as registered
The legal name and the address exactly as registered, and the charity registration number, on every receipt.
A serial number, used once
Each masjid has its own sequence, from RCPT-000001. A number is never used twice, and a voided receipt keeps its number on file.
Where and when
The place of issue, the day the receipt was issued, and the date of the gift, or its year on an annual receipt, each on the masjid’s own clock.
The donor’s name and address
Taken from the donor’s record. A receipt needs a mailing address, so a donor without one is asked to add it first; no receipt is printed with a blank.
The amount and the eligible amount
Jariyah receipts gifts where nothing was given in return, so the eligible amount equals the gift. A gift with an advantage, such as a dinner ticket, is not receipted by it yet.
The signer and the CRA
The name and title of the person your charity names to sign, on the signature line, and the CRA’s name and website. A signature image cannot be added yet.
Interac e-Transfer donation receipts
How does an Interac e-Transfer donation get a receipt?
The office records it against the donor, and it is receipted like any other gift. The e-Transfer arrives in the masjid’s own bank account, and Jariyah never moves or holds the money. Once the gift is recorded with its date and fund, it counts in the donor’s totals and, for a registered charity, can carry an official receipt.
- 1
It arrives in your bank
The donor sends the Interac e-Transfer to the address your masjid gives out, and the money lands in the masjid’s own bank account. Jariyah never moves or holds it.
- 2
The office records it
On the donor’s page, Record a gift: the amount, the date it was given, the fund, and e-transfer as how it was given. Someone new is added first, with their mailing address.
- 3
It reaches the books
With Jariyah Bookkeeping, the gift posts to the books in the same step, against its fund, and the bank statement then reconciles against it.
- 4
It is receipted
Issue a receipt for that gift straight away, or let it join the donor’s annual receipt. The date it was given decides which tax year it belongs to.
Running a dollar a day by e-Transfer? Jariyah can email each giver a reminder on the 1st, and again from the 10th if the month’s gift is not in, naming their own giver number for the transfer’s message, so the office knows whose gift it is when it arrives. The reminder stays off until the office turns it on, and stops once the month’s gift is recorded.
Year-end receipts
Year-end donation receipts for a masjid, in February
- 1
Pick the tax year
In Donors › Receipts, the office picks last year. The page says how many donors are owed an annual receipt, and for how much.
- 2
Fix the addresses
Donors who need a mailing address first are listed by name, never skipped silently. Add each address on the donor’s page.
- 3
Issue them
One press gives each donor still owed one an annual receipt, covering every gift of the year not already receipted on its own. A second press issues only for donors whose address was added in between.
- 4
Email them
Every annual receipt of the year goes to its donor with the PDF attached. Donors with no email address are named, with their receipt to print.
With the member app, a donor can also get their own receipt for one gift, or for a whole past year once it is over. It is the same paper in the app, in the console and in the emailed PDF.
For a registered charity
Official donation receipts for a mosque or Islamic centre, kept right
Never on two receipts
A gift is on at most one active receipt, and the database itself refuses a second. Asking again shows the receipt already issued.
Frozen when issued
Renaming the masjid or changing the signer later never changes a receipt somebody has already filed.
Voided, never edited
A wrong receipt is voided with a reason, keeps its number and prints VOID, and its gifts can be receipted again. A receipt is never edited or deleted.
A bounced cheque
Cancelling a gift keeps it on file with who, when and why, and voids the whole receipt it was on. The other gifts on that receipt can be receipted again.
Who may issue
Owners and administrators issue and void receipts. Staff and viewers can see every receipt and the audit, but cannot issue or void.
The year’s audit
Every receipt of a tax year, issued and voided with the reason, the total receipted, and a CSV export for your accountant.
Jariyah issues receipts from your masjid’s own records. It is not legal or tax advice, it does not replace your accountant, and your directors remain responsible for the charity’s receipts.
Questions
Mosque donation receipts: common questions
Can Jariyah issue official donation receipts?
Yes, for a registered charity. Receipts stay off until the office turns them on, with the legal name, address, charity number, signer and place of issue filled in. Each one is frozen when issued and covers one gift or a whole past year, given as cash, a cheque, an Interac e-Transfer or a kiosk card gift the donor has claimed.
Can we email donation receipts to donors?
Yes, with the PDF attached. The office emails one receipt from the donor’s page, or every annual receipt of a year in one press. A receipt voided while its email waited is not sent, and donors with no email address are named, so their receipt can be printed and handed over or posted instead.
When should a mosque issue year-end donation receipts?
Once the year is over, in time for donors’ tax returns. Jariyah issues an annual receipt only for a finished year, so the office runs last year’s receipts in February: one press for every donor still owed one, safe to press twice, then one more to email them all with the PDF attached.
What if a donor has no mailing address on file?
Then they get no receipt until one is added, because the donor’s address must be on an official donation receipt. The annual run lists those donors by name rather than skipping them silently. With the member app, a donor adds their own address; otherwise the office adds it on the donor’s page.
Can a mosque receipt a dinner ticket or a gift with an advantage?
Not in Jariyah yet. It receipts gifts where nothing was given in return, so the eligible amount always equals the gift. When a donor receives something back, such as a dinner ticket, the eligible amount is lower under the CRA’s rules, so ask your accountant how to receipt those gifts for now.
How much do donation receipts in Jariyah cost?
Jariyah does not publish prices. Official receipts come with donor management, one service switched on alone or beside the kiosk, the member app, the books and the others, so the conversation starts with how your masjid receipts today. The Jariyah team sets it up. Call or text Ashique Hossain at 306-209-3923 to talk it through.
